Zoom Communications Platform

Zoom is our new comprehensive communications platform used at Lipscomb which includes Zoom Meetings, Zoom Phone, Zoom Chat, and Zoom (Class) Rooms. These communication channels integrate into the existing online meetings platform to provide a comprehensive solution which will make collaboration more seamless.

Zoom can be used in a browser or in an application installed on a computer or mobile device. You can download it using the link below for your computer, or in your mobile device's app store.

Zoom Phones

Zoom Phone will take the place of the current NEC phone system and will continue to use your existing Lipscomb phone number/extension but offers many more features along with added flexibility. It will be possible to use the currently installed Zoom Workplace application on your computer or your smart phone (which is already used for Zoom meetings) to receive and place calls from your Lipscomb phone number, listen to voicemails, read voicemail transcripts, adjust call forwarding settings, and much more!

The current desk phones will be replaced by new Zoom compatible YeaLink desk phones as long as one was requested. If you did not respond to the IT survey, you will no longer have a desk phone but you will still be able to use the Zoom Workplace app to make and receive phone calls to your Lipscomb phone # extension.

Zoom Chat

Many teams within Lipscomb use chat tools such as Google Chat, Slack, etc. to communicate internally. With the move to Zoom phones this fall, we're encouraging all teams to transition to Zoom Chat as our primary internal chat communication platform.

Zoom Chat integrates perfectly with Zoom Phone and our existing Zoom Meeting capabilities, providing a comprehensive solution which will make collaboration more seamless. We encourage all faculty and staff to begin making this transition during the fall semester. This gradual approach will allow everyone to become comfortable with Zoom Chat before Google Chat is disabled for internal use in January, 2026.
